A fishery renovation was completed in September 2001, following a severe winterkill during the winter of 2000-2001. The kill was extremely severe on sport fish, leaving undesireable species such as carp and bullhead to dominate the fishery.  The rotenone based-renovation allowed the fishery to be "restarted." The lake was stocked with bluegill, largemouth bass, channel catfish, and crappie. Growth and survival of all stocked fish has been excellent. Fishing has returned to the lake and should remain good for many years ahead.

The Kossuth County Conservation Board (515-295-2138) maintains the park and campground on the southwest side of the lake. It has a playground for the little kids, a sand volleyball court for the big kids, and a swimming beach for those hot afternoons.

For more information contact the Kossuth County Conservation Board or the area fisheries manager.
