
Synder Bend is a 400 acre lake located 1.5 miles west of Salix, Iowa,
in Woodbury County. The lake is an oxbow along the Missouri River with
a maximum depth of 12 feet. It is separated from the Missouri River by
a water control structure at the south end of the lake and receives surplus
water on the north end from a power plant. The shoreline of much of the
lake is dominated by cattails and other marsh vegetation.
Snyder Bend is known for its good crappie and largemouth bass fishing.
A few very large catfish, up to 10 pounds, have also been reported. Other
species that cn be taken include bluegill and yellow bullhead. There are
no special fishing regulations or boat motor restrictions. Snyder Bend
Lake county park is situated on the lake and has overnight camping facilities.
There is also a good two lane boat ramp and large parking area.
