DES MOINES – After extensive public meetings and input, the DNR has finalized a rule proposal that would allow disadvantaged communities some additional time to meet state and federal wastewater treatment requirements.
The state Environmental Protection Commission will hold a special meeting by phone at 8 a.m. July 20 to vote on the proposal. The proposed rule sets guidelines to determine which communities qualify as disadvantaged when complying with wastewater regulations.
The proposal will affect cities and small communities that are responsible for treating their wastewater, including unincorporated communities, mobile home courts and rural water agencies. The rule proposal does not include industries that provide their own wastewater treatment.
Interested people can attend the conference call meeting by calling 866-685-1580, and then follow the prompts, dialing in the conference code of 4510673319 followed by the pound (#) sign. Or, attend the meeting in person in the third floor conference room of the Wallace Building, 502 E. Ninth St., Des Moines.
