DES MOINES – The Environmental Protection Commission will meet Jan. 21 to adopt Final Rules in Chapter 64, “Wastewater Construction and Operation Permits” and in Chapter 93, “Non-point Source Pollution Control Set-aside Programs. Both implement revised laws and go into effect March 26, 2014.
In other action, commissioners will be asked to approve a DNR three-year service contract with Iowa State University to monitor 138 of Iowa’s significantly publicly owned lakes. The lakes will be monitored for basic water chemistry, nutrients plankton composition and clarity. The contract is similar to lake monitoring contracts with Iowa State University for 2000-20907 and 2009-2013.
Additionally, the Commission will hear an appeal for a decision upheld by an Iowa administrative law judge. The decision of the Environmental Protection Commission constitutes final agency action. At 1 p.m. the EPC will receive oral arguments concerning an administrative order in the matter of Pet Memories Inc. of Cedar County.
The meeting will begin at 10 a.m. Public comments are scheduled for 10:30 a.m.
