Iowa’s industries can improve productivity and profits by effectively managing energy and waste. Several Iowa organizations offer programs to help the industrial sector increase energy efficiency, reduce waste and improve productivity.
Industries of the Future
The Iowa DNR, along with the Center for Industrial Research and Service (CIRAS) at Iowa State University, is participating in the U.S. Dept. of Energy’s Industries of the Future program. The goal of the program is to improve industrial efficiency and productivity nationwide by lowering raw material and energy use per unit of output, improve labor and capital productivity, and reduce the generation of wastes and pollutants. The DNR and ISU are focusing on metal casting and agriculture, and have received grants from the DOE to pursue efficiency improvements in these sectors.

Iowa DNR Pollution Prevention Program
The DNR’s pollution prevention and waste management assistance programs provide on-site expertise to Iowa’s businesses and industries, helping reduce waste streams and save energy.
High-Temperature Superconductivity
The DNR's outreach project informs electric power sector stakeholders and other interested parties about the potential of high-temperature superconductivity. These new technologies are expected to play an important role in the development of a more efficient and reliable electric grid.
