don.bonneau@dnr.iowa.gov

Don is Supervisor of the Fisheries Research Section, Fisheries Bureau, Iowa DNR. Since joining DNR in 1970, Don has worked on solution of problems impacting the quality of fish and fishing in Iowa. Research work has focused on improving methods to hatch and grow fish, improving survival of hatchery stocked fish, and identification of harvest regulations that benefit fishing. A major focus of research in recent years, however, has been research designed to improve our understanding of the impact of land use and water quality on fish communities and recreation. Findings of this research has helped support the Fisheries Bureau's use of ecosystem based management strategies.

Don was born in Concordia, Kansas and raised on a small farm. He earned a B.S. (Biology; 1968) from Fort Hays State University and M.S. (Fish and Wildlife Biology; 1970) from Kansas State University. He is a member of the American Fisheries Society (AFS) and North American Lake Management Society (NALMS) and interests include family, farming, gardening, fishing, hunting, and camping.
