DNR to Discuss Fisheries Projects at Big Creek Appreciation Day June 8
Posted: 05/23/2013
The DNR will offer a live fish exhibit and discuss fisheries projects underway at Big Creek State Park near Polk City at the second annual Big Creek Appreciation Day on June 8.

The event runs from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. near the marina and will also feature the DNR’s stream table, which demonstrates how water moving across the land affects water quality.

The Big Creek Lake Watershed Project, along with its partners like the DNR, sponsor the event to give lake visitors a chance to learn more about the watershed project , participate in fun activities and enjoy free food provided by the Iowa Pork Producers.

Other activities include pontoon boat tours, the Iowa Learning Farm’s Conservation Station and additional educational booths.

The Big Creek Lake Watershed Project focuses on reducing bacteria and sediment in the water from the surrounding watershed by working with landowners and residents to use conservation practices that filter and slow water down before it reaches the lake’s tributaries.

For more information, visit or contact watershed coordinators Sean McCoy at 515-432-2316 ext. 114 or Zach DeYoung at 515-964-1883 ext. 3.
