This page is intended to provide the owners of poultry flocks, either for personal use or commercial production, with information on protecting their flock from contracting Avian Influenza.
These flocks include free range poultry operations, confined poultry operations, laying operations, and family farms. These flocks are at risk to contract Avian Influenza through;
- contact with wild bird populations,
- introduction of new, contaminated, birds into the flock, and
- from people or equipment interacting with the flock without proper biosecurity.
The USDA has an ongoing program to improve biosecurity at family farms and small poultry operations. The USDA has also published the Draft National Avian Influenza Response Plan. When finalized the National Avian Influenza Response Plan will be implemented if Avian Influenza is found in the US.
The US Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) has put out a Factsheet Antimicrobial Products to Disinfect Poultry & Other Facilities Against Avian (Bird) Flu.
