2008 Greenhouse Gas Emissions Data from Selected Iowa Source Categories Available

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Air Quality Bureau has posted the data tables from its upcoming greenhouse gas inventory, “2008 Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Selected Iowa Source Categories,” for public review at www.iowacleanair.com/prof/ghg/ghg.html under the heading “News and Links.”

The DNR asks interested parties to review the emissions data and submit corrections. All corrections should be sent to Marnie Stein at Marnie.Stein@dnr.iowa.gov by 4:30 p.m., August 25, 2009.

This is the second greenhouse gas inventory conducted for the State as required by Iowa Code 455B.851, and it includes facility-specific emissions from ethanol plants and emissions from fossil fuel combustion at Title V sources. For the first time it also includes greenhouse gas emissions from specific industries such as cement manufacturing, lime manufacturing, ammonia production, nitric acid production, iron and steel production, and soda ash consumption. Emissions from fluorinated gas use are also included. The inventory must be submitted to the Governor and General Assembly by September 1, 2009.
