State Park Alerts - Closures and Important Information
Backbone State Park - Delaware County
  • Park gates at the East, West and North entrances of the park are closed starting November 21, 2016 for the winter. Gates will remain closed until April 1, 2017 or weather permitting. The south entrance to the CABINS and modern campground is open and roads are plowed, some frost free hydrants and all electric sites are on. Six Pines Campground is located outside of the west gate and roads are plowed in the winter. Water is off. Attention CABIN RENTERS access to the South Gate and Cabins: If traveling form the west on Hwy.20 exit on Hwy.187 to Lamont, turn right on C-64 to Dundee, turn left at the stop sign onto W-69 and continue 2 miles north of Dundee to the South Gate Entrance. From Manchester, IA go north on Hwy.13, turn left on Hwy.C-64 to W-69 in Dundee and continue 2 miles north of Dundee to the South Gate Entrance. If traveling from the north at Strawberry Point, IA take Hwy.13 south, turn right on Hwy.W-69 continue for 5 miles to the South Gate Entrance. 11/21/2016
Bellevue State Park - Jackson County
  • Modern restroom/shower building is closed for the season. Hydrants in the campground and the dumpstation are also shut off at this time. Water will be turned back on mid-April 2017. (Posted 10/17/16)
Big Creek State Park - Polk County
  • Big Creek Flush facilities closing after October 17,2016 until approximately April 17,2017. Pit latrines remain open. Boat docks will remain until first week in November unless weather or repairs are needed. (Posted 9/30/16)
  • Butch Olafson Shooting Range has been temporarily closed for renovations. A completion date has not been announced at this time. (Posted 7/3/2016)
Brushy Creek State Recreation Area - Webster County
  • As of November 22, 2016 the trails at Brushy Creek are temporarily closed to equestrian and bike use due to wet conditions. The 12 mile all-weather rock trail around the lake remains open for use. This bulletin will be removed when trails have dried sufficiently to reopen.
  • Weather permitting, restroom and shower facilities will be closed for the season on October 17, 2016. Pit vault toilets are available in all 3 campgrounds. Water hydrants and electricity remain on throughout the year for off-season camping. During the winter season please call ahead (515) 543 8298 to ensure access to a campsite. (Posted 9/27/16)
Elk Rock State Park - Marion County
  • As of Monday October 17th 2016 all modern restrooms and shower buildings will be closed for the season. The campsite electricity and water hydrants will remain on year round. The buildings will be reopened in Spring of 2017. (Posted 9/25/16)
Fairport State Recreation Area - Muscatine County
  • The shower building and water will be turned off on Monday October 31, 2016 for the winter season. The electricity and pit latrine will be available throughout the winter. The shower building and water will open again around May 1, 2017. (Posted 10/24/16)

Geode State Park - Henry County
  • The restrooms and shower houses have been closed for the season as of 11/7/2016 and will not reopen until mid to late April 2017. The campground remains open during the winter, electricity at sites is left on and one water hydrant left on at the entrance to the campground. The dump station remains open but there is no source of water there during the winter months. There is a vault toilet available near campsite #80 for wintertime use. posted 11/7/2016
Green Valley State Park - Union County
  • Modern restroom/shower buildings will be closed as of 10/17/16 and will reopen near 4/15/17. Water hydrants will remain open unless the weather becomes too cold or a leak has been discovered. This section will be updated when/if water hydrants are shut down. Electricity will still be available throughout the campground. A pit latrine will remain open at the North end of the campground. Honey Creek State Park - Appanoose County

Lake Ahquabi State Park - Warren County
  • The Lake Ahquabi Lodge, shower buildings and beach restrooms are closed for the season. Pit vault latrines located at the boat ramp, campground, and south shelter will remain open for the winter. Campground hydrants located at sites 4, 53, and 102 will remain on for the winter. Both dump stations will be open through the winter. (Posted 10/17/16)
Lake Anita State Park - Cass County
  • All modern restrooms and showers will be shut down on October 24, 2016. Full service sites and electric sites will remain open throughout the winter with water, electric, and sewer remaining on. Pit latrines are still available at the boat ramps, picnic area, and at the dam. (Posted 10/18/16)
Lake Keomah State Park - Mahaska County
  • Starting October 16th, 2016 the shower building will be closed for the season. The shower building will reopen around May 1st, 2017. (Posted 10/3/16)
Lake Manawa State Park - Pottawattamie County
  • CAMPGROUND CLOSED: Effective November 1, 2015 the campground at Lake Manawa State Park will be closed until further notice. The 5 shelters at the park will still be available. Lake of Three Fires State Park - Taylor County
  • Facilities: The modern restrooms/showers at Lake of Three Fires State Park are closed for the season on Monday, October 17th. The RV dump station will remain open, but no water to flush. Water hydrants and electric campsites will remain ON in the campground year round. (Posted 10/17/16)
Lake Wapello State Park - Davis County
  • Showerhouse is closed for the season. All hydrants, dump station, and electric will remain on. Cabins 1-12 have been shut down for the season. Cabin 13 is available through the reservation system.
Ledges State Park - Boone County
  • Facilities: The modern restrooms/showers in Ledges State Park are closed for the winter season. Water will remain ON to the hydrants in the campground until the end of November. The RV dump station will remain open until temperatures drop below freezing consistently. Power to the electric campsites will remain ON year round. Portable toilets will be located in front of each campground restroom building and along the Canyon Drive until the end of November. (Updated 10/25/2016)
Lewis and Clark State Park - Monona County
  • Facilities: The modern restrooms/showers in Lewis and Clark State Park will close for the season on Monday, October 17th. Water will remain ON to the hydrants in the full hook-ups sites 97-108. The RV dump station has also been winterized for the season. Power to all campsites will remain ON year round. Pit latrines are located in the campground near site 108 and also at the entrance of the park. The estimated date for re-opening of the shower building is April 11, 2017. Maquoketa Caves State Park - Jackson County
  • The restroom facilities in the campground and park will be closed for the season on Monday, October 17th. The hydrants throughout the campground and electricity will remain on all year, as well as access to a pit latrine till November 30, 2017. Caves in the park are also closed for preparation of Bat Hibernation. They will reopen on April 15 2017.(Posted 10-21-2016)
McIntosh Woods State Park - Cerro Gordo County

Palisades-Kepler State Park - Linn County
  • PARK WATER SYSTEM CLOSURE - The park water system and shower building will be closed during the off season each year from mid-October to late April/early May. (Posted 10/10/16)
Pikes Peak State Park - Clayton County
  • The water is turned off and the modern restroom and shower facilities are closed until spring. There is a latrine at the south end of the campground that is open year-round. The electricity to the campsites stays on year-round also. (Posted 11/16/16).
Pine Lake State Park - Hardin County
  • Modern showers and restrooms in the camp area at Pine Lake have been closed for the season. A vault toilet will remain open for off-season use South of the camp area at the Upper Boat Ramp. Water at the RV dump station will remain on until temperatures drop below freezing. Electricity at the camp area will remain on year-round. Hydrants throughout the camp area are frost-free and may remain on year-round. Other modern restrooms throughout the park have been closed for the season. Pleasant Creek State Recreation Area - Linn County
  • Park restrooms,showers and water hydrants are all OFF for the winter season. Dump station is open for dumping only. Pit toilets are open at the main boat ramps area and in the second campground area. Electricity at campsites will remain ON until first measurable snowfall of winter 2016/2017. Facilities will be opened in the spring according to weather and temperatures, in mid to late April 2017. Electricity will be turned on in the campgrounds once snow events have stopped for 2016/2017 winter season.

The water hydrant at the equestrian staging area will remain On until October 31st, 2016. The dump station will remain open for dumping only.   • Effective, May 18th, 2016 the beach will be closed until the shoreline restoration project is completed and the lake refills. With the spring drawdown of the lake for shoreline work, the water’s edge is receded more than 75 feet from the current beach area and a significant drop off is exposed, creating unsafe conditions for the area. The shoreline restoration work is expected to be completed later this summer, given good weather conditions, and the lake is expected to fill in 2017. Red Haw State Park - Lucas County
  • The campground at Red Haw State Park will remain closed this winter to allow for the upgrade of 13 electric sites and the addition of 5 electric sites. The campground will remain closed through early spring 2017 to allow new seeding to become established. Shimek State Forest - Van Buren County

Stephens State Forest - Lucas County
  • EQUESTRIAN TRAIL CLOSURE: The equestrian trails are currently closed due to wet conditions. This notice will be removed when the trails have been re-opened. Questions can be directed to the forest headquarters at 641-774-4559 (updated 11/28/16).
Stone State Park - Woodbury County
  • The modern restrooms/shower building in the campground closed on Oct. 18th. Water hydrants and electrical service in the campground will remain on until the end of November. Roads to the campground are subject to close when winter weather arrives. (Posted 10/18/16)
Viking Lake State Park - Montgomery County
  • Modern restroom/shower building is closed for the season. Hydrants will remain on in the campground. The dump station will remain on as long as weather permits. Water will be turned back on mid-April 2017. (Posted 10/27/2016)
Volga River State Recreation Area - Fayette County
  • Effective November 28th, the trails at Volga River SRA are closed for equestrian use. Trails will remain open for non equestrian recreation during the winter months. The trails will reopen for equestrian use when suitable conditions return. This posting will be removed when trails open for equestrian use. 11/28/16
  • The water to the Lakeview and Albany Campgrounds have been shut off for the season. In addition, the Lakeview shower building and boat ramp restrooms have been closed for the season. Electricity is still available in both campgrounds. A pit latrine is located near the extra vehicle parking lot in the Lakeview Campground and the north and south ends of the equestrian campground. The Lakeview Campground will close once snow accumulates. The Albany will be open with electricity throughout the winter. Water will be turned on approximately April 20, 2017.
Walnut Woods State Park - Polk County
  • Winter Closure: The modern restrooms and dump station at Walnut Woods are closed for the season. Water hydrants at full hookup sites will remain on until Nov. 1, 2016. Electricity at all sites will remain on. A portable restroom is located near the campground restroom building, and vault restroom facilities will remain open in adjacent picnic areas. Wapsipinicon State Park - Jones County
  • Winter Closure: Water to the restrooms and drinking fountains have been turned off. Electricity is still on at the campsites and a pit latrine is available in the campground. Updated 11-9-16
Waubonsie State Park - Fremont County
  • Facilities: The modern restrooms/showers, the overlook shelter restrooms, and the modern restroom in the lower picnic area at Waubonsie State Park will be closed for the season on Monday October 31st. Water hydrants will remain on, however the dump station will also be closed on Monday pit latrine's are available all season. Wildcat Den State Park - Muscatine County
  • Water for Wildcat Den Campground and Upper Picnic area are scheduled to be closed starting Monday October 17. A vault toilet located in the campground and one in the Upper Picnic area will remain open throughout the winter. Water will be available again on May 1, 2017. (Posted 10/17/2016)
Wilson Island State Recreation Area - Pottawattamie County
  • Modern restroom and shower facilities will close October 31, 2016 and will remain closed until mid April, 2017. Water hydrants and the dump stations will remain available until November 15, 2016 and will reopen mid April, 2017. Electricity at the campsites stays on year round.
