State Park Alerts - Closures and Important Information
Big Creek State Park - Polk County
  • Butch Olafson Shooting Range has been temporarily closed for renovations. A completion date has not been announced at this time. (Posted 7/3/2016)
  • Big Creek Beach/Playground/Boat Rental Physical Address is: 8550 NW 142nd Ave, Polk City, Iowa 50226. This will provide directions to these areas.
Brushy Creek State Recreation Area - Webster County
  • As of September 22, 2016 the trails at Brushy Creek are temporarily closed to equestrian and bike use due to wet conditions. The 12 mile all-weather rock trail around the lake remains open for use. This bulletin will be removed when trails have dried sufficiently to reopen.
  • Road construction affecting Brushy Creek State Recreation Area access. Effective June 7, 2016 the Brushy Creek exit off of Highway 20 will be closed until approximately November 1st. A detour from the east will use exit 262 to take drivers south on County Road R21 (Stagecoach Rd.) At 290th Street you will go west (right turn) to reach the south entrance of the park. From the West you may take the Dolliver State Park/Otho exit 124 and then immediately turn left on 235th Street, County Road P6D. Follow this until 290th Street and go east (turn left). Take a left on Union Ave. for access to the West Entrance of the park, or continue straight on for the South Entrance.
Elk Rock State Park - Marion County
  • As of Monday October 17th 2016 all modern restrooms and shower buildings will be closed for the season. The campsite electricity and water hydrants will remain on year round. The buildings will be reopened in Spring of 2017.
George Wyth State Park - Black Hawk County
  • George Wyth State Park Closing due to flooding 9/22/16: George Wyth State Park will be closing Thurs. Sept. 22, 2016 at 5 pm due to flooding. We will be closed for up to a week possibly longer.
Lake Ahquabi State Park - Warren County
  • Shower building will close for the season on October 17th, 2016.
  • Park will be closed October 21st through October 24th 2016, for a deer management hunt.
Lake Manawa State Park - Pottawattamie County
  • CAMPGROUND CLOSED: Effective November 1, 2015 the campground at Lake Manawa State Park will be closed until further notice. The 5 shelters at the park will still be available. Lake Wapello State Park - Davis County
  • All electric sites and full hook-up sites will be closed for the remainder of the 2016 season. Non-electric sites are available on a first-come first-serve basis only (no reservations). The shower house is open.
Ledges State Park - Boone County
  • The Canyon Drive is currently closed to vehicle traffic. Heavy rainfall has caused flash flooding, making the stream flowing through the canyon area of Ledges rise to levels unsafe for vehicle traffic. Park visitors are allowed to hike into the canyon area at this time but be advised the stream is running at a high level and visitors are cautioned not to enter the stream on foot. The campground, trails, many other roads and parking lots, and both open shelters remain accessible by vehicle. Lewis and Clark State Park - Monona County
  • There is road construction on Highway 175 starting around May 1st. The DOT is resurfacing the Highway from the Missouri River to I-29. This potentially will delay your arrival times.(Posted 4/25/2016)
Maquoketa Caves State Park - Jackson County
  • Visitors to Maquoketa Caves State Park once again have the opportunity to explore the remarkable cave features of the park. The caves are currently open and free of charge. Those who plan to enter the caves are required to attend a short program regarding White Nose Syndrome and preventing its spread. White Nose Syndrome is a deadly disease affecting bats, and although it has no impact on humans, it can be spread by humans. Beginning May 9, interpreters are available at the caves from 8am to 4:30pm (seven days a week) and beginning May 26 they are available from 8am to 8pm (seven days a week). Nine Eagles State Park - Decatur County
  • Youth Group Campsite Closed: The youth group campsite is currently unavailable for reservations due to the construction of a new shelter. (POSTED 7/12/2016)
Pleasant Creek State Recreation Area - Linn County
  • Due to flooding of the Cedar River alternative routes may be required to gain access to the recreation area. From the North: Urbana south to Shellsburg and east to the park entrance. From the South: Highway 30 to Atkins to the park entrance. Please call the park office for more information at 319-436-7716.
  • Effective October 17th, 2016 All modern park restrooms, shower buildings and water hydrants will be closed for the season. The water hydrant at the equestrian staging area will remain On until October 31st, 2016. The dump station will remain open for dumping only. Pit toilets at the cabins and the main boat ramps area will remain open.
  • Effective, May 18th, 2016 the beach will be closed until the shoreline restoration project is completed and the lake refills. With the spring drawdown of the lake for shoreline work, the water’s edge is receded more than 75 feet from the current beach area and a significant drop off is exposed, creating unsafe conditions for the area. The shoreline restoration work is expected to be completed later this summer, given good weather conditions, and the lake is expected to fill in 2017.   • Due to the construction of the lake restoration project, the Lodge and East Shelter will only be available for advanced reservations through the park office. The construction of the lake may be occurring 7 days per week, during daylight hours. Expect a certain noise level and traffic delays due to slow moving equipment on park roads. The construction will be occurring from May 1, 2016 through September 30, 2016. Red Haw State Park - Lucas County
  • Due to a delay in the construction planning process, the campground at Red Haw State Park and reservation system will remain open through Labor Day (Monday September 5, 2016). The reservation system and campground will close on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 and remain closed through the fall season to allow for the renovation and electrical upgrade of 18 camping sites. Shimek State Forest - Van Buren County

Springbrook State Park - Guthrie County
  • Camp site #41 will be closed for the remainder of the 2016 camping season due to lack of vegetative cover.
Union Grove State Park - Tama County
  • Boating will be restricted on the lake at Union Grove State Park this summer during current dredging operations. For safety reasons, boating will be restricted to non-motorized crafts, such as canoes and kayaks. No motorized boats will be allowed on the lake. The dredge will operate 24/7 and dredging is expected to be completed this fall.(Posted 6/9/16)
Yellow River State Forest - Allamakee County
  • Effective 9/23/16, the equestrian trails have been closed due to recent heavy rains. The trails will be reopened as soon as they firm up and staff have had time to make necessary repairs. This bulletin will be removed when the trails have been re-opened.
