State Park Alerts - Closures and Important Information
Brushy Creek State Recreation Area - Webster County
  • Road construction affecting Brushy Creek State Recreation Area access. Effective June 7, 2016 the Brushy Creek exit off of Highway 20 will be closed until approximately November 1st. A detour from the east will take drivers south on County Road R21 (Stagecoach Rd.) At 290th Street you will go west (right turn) to reach the south entrance of the park. From the West you may take the Otho/Dolliver State Park exit and then turn left on 235th Street, County Road P6D. Follow this until 290th Street and go east (turn left). Take a left on Union Ave. for access to the West Entrance of the park, or continue on for the South Entrance.
Fairport State Recreation Area - Muscatine County
  • CAMPGROUND IS OPENING: The campground will be opening at 8 a.m. on Monday, June 27th.
Geode State Park - Henry County
  • The beach shelter is closed for rentals due to a broken sewer line that will be repaired sometime this summer. The shelter will be available on first come first served basis,no reservations until the problem is fixed. No restrooms or kitchenette available until line repaired. There is a pit toilet located on the hill above the playground close to the shelter. (Posted 4/21/2016)
  • Construction on 3 new silt retention ponds will begin the week of 6/27/2016. This will effect trail access between shelter #1 and shelter#4. This portion of trail will be closed while construction is occurring. At this time it is not known how long the project will take. It is hoped that the trail will only need to be closed for a few weeks to a month.
  • The pit latrine at shelter # 2 has been closed permanently but the shelter is still available for rent. Those wishing to rent a shelter with restroom should use Shelter #1 or #4 as an alternative. (Posted 4/21/2016)
Green Valley State Park - Union County
  • Starting 5/30/16 sites #8 and #50 will be closed until sewer line improvement work can be completed.
Gull Point State Park - Dickinson County
  • CAMPSITE CLOSURE: Due to the wet conditions on campsites 22, 23, 24, 29, 30, 31, and 32 they are currently unavailable for reservations. Once these campsites are suitable for reservations this alert will be removed. (POSTED 5/26/2016)
Lake Darling State Park - Washington County
  • Road construction is scheduled for the new year round cabins and the current camping cabins for the Spring of 2016. Park Staff will work with customers who have already made reservations as their reservation dates draw closer. No new reservations for the cabins will be allowed to be made until construction is complete. This construction will not affect the campground reservations. Lake Manawa State Park - Pottawattamie County
  • CAMPGROUND CLOSED: Effective November 1, 2015 the campground at Lake Manawa State Park will be closed until further notice. The 5 shelters at the park will still be available. Lake Wapello State Park - Davis County
  • Lake Wapello State Park campground will be closed for renovation starting September 7,2015 until September 30, 2016.
Lewis and Clark State Park - Monona County
  • There is road construction on Highway 175 starting around May 1st. The DOT is resurfacing the Highway from the Missouri River to I-29. This potentially will delay your arrival times.(Posted 4/25/2016)
Maquoketa Caves State Park - Jackson County
  • Visitors to Maquoketa Caves State Park once again have the opportunity to explore the remarkable cave features of the park. The caves are currently open and free of charge. Those who plan to enter the caves are required to attend a short program regarding White Nose Syndrome and preventing its spread. White Nose Syndrome is a deadly disease affecting bats, and although it has no impact on humans, it can be spread by humans. Beginning May 9, interpreters are available at the caves from 8am to 4:30pm (seven days a week) and beginning May 26 they are available from 8am to 8pm (seven days a week). Marble Beach State Recreation Area - Dickinson County
  • CAMPSITE CLOSURE: Due to the wet conditions on campsites 50-56 and 160-162 they are currently unavailable for reservations. Once these campsites are suitable for reservations this alert will be removed. (POSTED 6/6/2016)
Nine Eagles State Park - Decatur County
  • Youth Group Campsite Closed: The youth group campsite is currently unavailable for reservations until July 1, 2016 due to the construction of a new shelter. (POSTED 2/4/2016)
Pleasant Creek State Recreation Area - Linn County
  • Effective, May 18th, 2016 the beach will be closed until the shoreline restoration project is completed and the lake refills. With the spring drawdown of the lake for shoreline work, the water’s edge is receded more than 75 feet from the current beach area and a significant drop off is exposed, creating unsafe conditions for the area. The shoreline restoration work is expected to be completed later this summer, given good weather conditions, and the lake is expected to fill in 2017.   • Due to the construction of the lake restoration project, the Lodge and East Shelter will only be available for advanced reservations through the park office. The construction of the lake may be occurring 7 days per week, during daylight hours. Expect a certain noise level and traffic delays due to slow moving equipment on park roads. The construction will be occurring from May 1, 2016 through September 30, 2016. Red Haw State Park - Lucas County
  • Due to a delay in the construction planning process, the campground at Red Haw State Park and reservation system will remain open through Labor Day (Monday September 5, 2016). The reservation system will close on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 and remain closed through the fall season to allow for the renovation and electrical upgrade of 18 camping sites. Union Grove State Park - Tama County
  • Boating will be restricted on the lake at Union Grove State Park this summer during current dredging operations. For safety reasons, boating will be restricted to non-motorized crafts, such as canoes and kayaks. No motorized boats will be allowed on the lake. The dredge will operate 24/7 and dredging is expected to be completed this fall.(Posted 6/9/16)
