As a requirement of an AmeriCorps term of service with the Department of Natural Resources, members will organize and participate in Volunteer Generating Projects (VGP for short). A VGP is an event where the community is invited to come and donate their time and effort for a common cause.
VGPs tie members and citizens together supporting the AmeriCorps mission:
Strengthening Communities: is one of the goals of AmeriCorps and as a member you have the opportunity to spread the ethic of service to others in your community.
Encouraging Responsibility: in our members and helping them learn to solve community problems and become leaders is a major goal of AmeriCorps and our program.
Getting Things Done: is another AmeriCorps goal. You will become an agent for positive change in your community!
Members will organize and participate in VGPs. An organizational VGP is one where the member creates, and organizes the event as well as recruit and manages the volunteers. This event must be something natural resources related.
A participatory VGP is an event the member volunteers for. This can be anything in the community where the member is volunteering to serve.
