Canoeing Iowa's Waters and IOWATER Testing

The DNR oversees numerous laws related to water quality that protect the health and safety of Iowans, while improving Iowa’s water resources. From drinking water to wastewater, and from wetlands to septic systems, ensuring clean water is an important priority for Iowa.

Stakeholder Involvement

The Water Quality Bureau holds meetings and forms workgroups to seek input and recommendations from stakeholders on various planning and rulemaking activities.  The links on this page provide access to agendas, documents, and other useful websites.  Members of the public may also track meeting and workgroup activities from this page.

EO80 Stakeholder Group: Review of topsoil preservation requirements for activities covered by NPDES General Permit #2

The Director of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, in consultation with the Governor’s office, has selected a stakeholder group to review changes to NPDES General Permit No. 2, pursuant to Executive Order 80.  The purpose of the stakeholder group is to consider alternatives and make recommendations in regard to the soil preservation provisions of Part IV of NPDES General Permit No. 2.

Public comments regarding the topsoil preservation requirements and alternatives to the current requirements may be sent to Adam Schnieders at adam.schnieders@dnr.iowa.gov.

EO80 Stakeholder Group: Permits for Diversion, Storage and Withdrawal of Water from the Cambrian-Ordovician Aquifer (COMPLETED June 2014)

The Director of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, in consultation with the Governor's Office, has selected a stakeholder group to consider the need for rule changes in the Iowa Administrative Code Chapters 50, 52, and 53.  The purpose of the stakeholder group is to consider alternatives and make recommendations to better manage the Cambrian-Ordovician Aquifer in Iowa.

EO80 Stakeholder Group: Water Use Permitting Process Review (COMPLETED April 2013)

The Director of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, in consultation with the Governor’s office, has selected a stakeholder group to review the water use permitting process, pursuant to Executive Order 80. The purpose of the stakeholder group is to streamline the application and review process for the diversion, storage and withdrawal of water, specifically addressing issues that lead to faster and more efficient permit-processing times.
