The Onawa Fisheries Station is located in Lewis and Clark State Park west of Onawa. The fisheries management team consists of a biologist and a technician. This team manages public fishing waters in the Missouri River along Iowa’s western border and Blue Lake. Some of the activities undertaken by this management team include:
- surveying and assessing fish populations in the Missouri River and associated backwaters
- analyzing physical, chemical, and biological aspects of large rivers
- advising on fish habitat and channel modification structures
- collaborating with federal agencies on Missouri River Management
- conducting fish clinics and outdoor classrooms
