The nonresident deer application period and time to purchase preference points is May 4th, starting at 6am CST through June 2nd. A great resource for you as you apply is our
Nonresident Deer Application Guide. However if you can’t get your questions answered there, our DNR customer service representatives are here to assist you with all of your questions and concerns. We are open Monday through Friday from 8am to 4:30pm CST with the exception of holidays and can be reached at 515-281-5918 or at
webmaster@dnr.iowa.gov.
You can apply or purchase preference points online by logging in to our
online purchasing site and choose Hunting or Fishing License Sales. First time hunters must apply over the phone (800-367-1188) to set up an IDNR account. If you were born after January 1st, 1972 you will need your hunter education certification on your account.
The drawing results will be posted by July 20th and can be found by going to our
online purchasing site and choose View Application Status. Draw results will not be provided over the phone.
If any license quota for Any-Deer/Antlerless-only combination licenses has not been filled, the excess licenses will be sold first-come, first-served through our
online purchasing site or through the telephone ordering system (800-367-1188) beginning 6 a.m. CDT July 27.
