The Watershed Monitoring and Assessment Section of the Iowa DNR - Iowa Geological and Water Survey is responsible for the design, implementation and management of Iowa's Ambient Water Monitoring Program. The purpose of the program is to develop and deliver consistent, unbiased information about the condition of Iowa's surface and groundwater resources so that decisions regarding the development, management and protection of these resources may be improved.

DRAFT Impaired Waters 2010 Regional Maps
The regional maps for the 2010 impaired waters list are finished and available for viewing. The six regional maps represent a detailed view of the draft list of the 2010 impaired waters (303(d) list). The maps and associated table lists are available in a web page format. A printable PDF map is alos available for the six regions (field offices) in the state.

DRAFT 2010 Impaired Waters List for Public Comment
Iowa DNR has prepared a draft 2010 list of impaired waters as required by Section 303(d) of the federal Clean Water Act. This list is also known as “Category 5” of Iowa’s 2010 draft Integrated Report. Iowa DNR is now seeking public comments on this draft list.

Water Quality Index Map
The water quality index interactive map representing the "all years average" was recently updated to include the monthly results from year 2010. The WQI scores are based on an average of all calculated WQI scores for each month for every year the site has been sampled. Many of the ambient sites have been sampled each month dating back to year 1999.
