Derelict Building Program - Completed Projects

City of Arlington
The total project generated 3145 tons of waste-3132 of which was diverted thru re-use and beneficial reuse outlets.  Just over 193 tons of waste was landfilled for the entire project.  The City estimated a landfill disposal savings of $187,926.00.

City of Belle Plaine
The City, working with a local contractor was able to properly remove the asbestos containing materials from inside the building.  The total project generated 35 tons of asbestos contaminated waste.

City of Emmetsburg
The City  applied for funds to cover an asbestos inspection in 25 buildings as part of their downtown façade renovation project.

City of Epworth 
The total project generated 676 tons of waste-656 of which was diverted thru re-use and beneficial reuse outlets.  Just over 19 tons of waste was landfilled for the entire project.  The City estimated a landfill disposal savings of $23,087.00.

City of Garnavillo
The total project generated 2573 tons of waste-2516 of which was diverted thru re-use and beneficial reuse outlets.  Just over 57 tons of waste was landfilled for the entire project.  The City estimated a landfill disposal savings of $158,599.66.

City of Guthrie Center 
The total project generated 312 tons of waste- 238 tons of which was diverted thru re-use and beneficial reuse outlets.  Just over 74 tons of waste was landfilled for the entire project.  The City estimated a landfill disposal savings of $10,710.00.

City of Hawarden
The City used the funds to inspect for asbestos, abate any asbestos found, and complete a Phase I environmental site assessment.  Renovation activities at the site began in February and the tasks detailed above were completed in early June of 2012. 

City of Ida Grove
The total project generated 1060 tons of waste-818 of which was diverted thru re-use and beneficial reuse outlets.  Just over 193 tons of waste was landfilled for the entire project.  The City estimated a landfill disposal savings of $34,365.24.

City of Lohrville
The total project generated 559 tons of waste-401 of which was diverted thru re-use and beneficial reuse outlets.  The City estimated a landfill disposal savings of $12,000.00 but was fined as well as the contractor for this project by the local DNR Field Office for illegal burning of materials.

City of Marcus
The total project generated 28.9 tons of waste-27 of which was diverted thru re-use and beneficial reuse outlets.  Just over 1.9 tons of waste was landfilled for the entire project.  The City estimated a landfill disposal savings of $560.00.

City of Middletown
The City  applied for funds to cover an asbestos inspection. They plan on applying again next year for abating the asbestos that was identified from the asbestos inspection.  

City of Norway
The total project generated 2115 tons of waste-634 of which was diverted thru re-use and beneficial reuse outlets.  The City estimated a landfill disposal savings of $38,000.00.

City of Olin
The City used the funds to assist with abating asbestos and addressing the overall cost of stabilizing the building and replacing the roof. Renovation activities at the site began in August and finished in October.   

City of Rockford
The total project generated 97 tons of waste-42 of which was diverted thru re-use and beneficial reuse outlets.  Just over 55 tons of waste was landfilled for the entire project.  The City estimated a landfill disposal savings of $1,804.00.

City of Ruthven
The total project generated 665 tons of waste-630 of which was diverted thru re-use and beneficial reuse outlets.  Just over 35 tons of waste was landfilled for the entire project.  The City estimated a landfill disposal savings of $31,484.52.  

City of Sibley
The City, working with a local contractor was able to renovate the interior and storefront of a formerly abandoned commercial building as part of its urban revitalization program.

City of Sioux Rapids
The total project generated 492 tons of waste-443 of which was diverted thru re-use and beneficial reuse outlets.  Just over 49 tons of waste was landfilled for the entire project.  The City estimated a landfill disposal savings of $22,150.00.  

City of Stacyville

The total project generated 891 tons of waste-655 of which was diverted thru re-use and beneficial reuse outlets.  The City estimated a landfill disposal savings of $3,320.75.

City of Onawa 
The total project generated 1384 tons of waste-1328 of which was diverted thru re-use and beneficial reuse outlets.  Just over 6 tons of waste was landfilled for the entire project.  The City estimated a landfill disposal savings of $22,709.00.
City of Van Meter

The total project generated 398 tons of waste-368 of which was diverted thru re-use and beneficial reuse outlets.  Just over 30 tons of waste was landfilled for the entire project.  The City estimated a landfill disposal savings of $13,248.00.

Louisa County
The county asked for assistance with costs towards an asbestos inspection as well as to complete a structural engineering assessment of the building.  The project started in early April and was complete by mid-June. The County is currently considering options on future plans for the structure.
