2010 Iowa Statewide Greenhouse Gas Emissions
GHG emissions for 2010 were calculated using the most recent version of the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) State Greenhouse Gas Inventory Tool (SIT).
In 2010, total Iowa gross greenhouse gas emissions were 136.52 million metric tons carbon dioxide equivalents (MMtCO2e). Figure 1 and Table 1 present the GHG emission from each sector. Table 1 includes net GHG emissions after carbon sinks.

Total statewide gross GHG emissions increased 10.7% from 2005 – 2010, peaking in 2007 as shown in Figure 2. GHG emissions decreased 5.1% from 2007 – 2009, mostly due to the economic downturn.
