Backbone State Park - Delaware County
  • On December 6 and 7, 2014 Backbone State Park will conduct a Special Doe Only Reduction Deer Hunt. During this time the entire park will be closed for all use with the exception of the park hunters and cabin reservations. The park closure includes trout streams, campgrounds, hiking trails and all picnic areas. You will need to contact the Concessionaire, Kelly Peterman at 563 933-2273 to reserve a cabin from December 5, 6, and 7. For more information or questions please call the park office at 563-924-2000. Thank You.
Brushy Creek State Recreation Area - Webster County
  • The beach at Brushy Creek will be closed to public access in 2014 for a major beach renovation. The project includes major excavation, new roads and parking lots. We apologize for the inconvenience. The Beach Campground will remain open and accessible.
Geode State Park - Henry County
  • The wastewater system for the campground and beach shelter facilties will be closed and updated with construction in 2014. As a result of this there will be no restroom, shower, or dump station facilities until the project is completed. There will be limited facilties during this time. Water will be available at the campground hydrants for campers, and electrical service at the electrical sites. All campsites will be available on a first come first served basis until project completion in the Spring of 2015. No reservations will be taken for campsites or the beach shelter during this time. Green Valley State Park - Union County
  • The entire park, including the campground and cabins will be closed to the public for the Green Valley Park Deer Hunt on Saturday, November 15th and Sunday, November 16th. For safety reasons only registered deer hunters will be allowed in the park those two days. The park will reopen to the public on Monday, November 17. 2014.
Lake Ahquabi State Park - Warren County
  • The entire park will be closed from October 24th through October 27th for a mentored deer hunt that will be taking place in the park. If you have any questions, please contact the park office at 515 961-7101. Thank you.
Lake Keomah State Park - Mahaska County
  • Lake Keomah State Park will be temporarily closed after the 2014 recreation season to facilitate the reconstruction of the park roadways. The Construction project which is slated to start after Labor Day, will run through the entire portion of the 2015 recreation season. Updated: 8/18/2014 3:00 P.M.
Ledges State Park - Boone County
  • The Canyon Drive is currently closed to vehicle traffic. Heavy rainfall causing flash flooding has made the creek flowing through the canyon area of Ledges rise to levels unsafe for vehicle traffic. Park visitors are allowed to hike into the canyon area at this time. The campground, trails, many other roads & parking lots, and both open shelters remain accessible by vehicle. Lewis and Clark State Park - Monona County
  • WINTER CLOSURES: Electricity is available year round. Full hook-up campsites are available year round.
Maquoketa Caves State Park - Jackson County
  • The caves will be open April 15. Visitor’s to Maquoketa Caves State Park will once again have the opportunity to explore the remarkable cave features of the park. There is a short program that will help to prevent the spread of White Nose Syndrome by humans. Attendance at the program is required for those who plan to enter the caves. Mines of Spain State Recreation Area and E. B. Lyons Interpretive Center - Dubuque County
  • Construction has started on the new property adjacent to the E. B. Lyons Interpretive Center. Construction consists of grading for new parking lots, ADA trail, shop and other amenities. It is advised that park visitors stay out of the construction area. The area consists of about a 40 acre area. Call the park office at 563-556-0620 if you have Questions about the construction.
Rock Creek State Park - Jasper County
  • The water and restroom facilities have been turned on for the 2014 recreation season. (Posted 4/29/2014)
Viking Lake State Park - Montgomery County
  • An annual deer hunt will be taking place in the park on November 15th and 16th, 2014. The park will be closed at 4:00pm on Friday, November 14th and will reopen at 7:00pm on Sunday, November 16th. If you have any questions please contact the park staff at 712 829-2235.
Volga River State Recreation Area - Fayette County
  • The trails are open September 4, 2014
  • Equestrian Trails are open 7/3/2014
Walnut Woods State Park - Polk County
  • The Campground at Walnut Woods State Park will be closed starting September 02, 2014 thru approx. November 01, 2014 for new road construction. Access for lodge reservations and other day use activities will remain available using the West entrance to the park. The lodge will be closed from January 1, 2015 thru May 31, 2015 due to the road construction. Please revisit this web page for future updates. (Posted August 18, 2014)

Waubonsie State Park - Fremont County
  • 10/01/14 The equine trails have been closed due to heavy rainfall during the night. The trails will remain closed until this notice has been removed 10/01/14
