EDGEWOOD - The city of Edgewood in Delaware County discharged an unknown amount of untreated wastewater to Honey Creek after lightning caused a malfunction at a pump station upstream of the treatment plant.

The discharge was discovered at 7 a.m. Monday. The city acted quickly, ending the discharge by 7:15 by running the system manually until repairs were made.

The DNR asked people to keep children and pets away from the area near the wastewater treatment plant for 48 hours to prevent contact with bacteria. The correct address of the discharge is the Edgewood plant at 1975 Lazer Road, not the 200 block of West Union St.

The DNR checked the area Tuesday and is continuing to monitor the site.
