Trees for Kids Grants Awarded to 32 Spring Projects
Posted: 04/10/2012
Trees For Kids will be funding 32 different projects to plant more than 1,000 landscape trees on school grounds or other public places frequented by youth.

All grants involve a strong educational component with the youth experiencing hands on learning by planting, mulching, and watering their trees.

Grants are awarded to the following schools and groups: Albia Schools, Alta-Aurelia Schools, Ames Youth Sports Complex, Benton County 4H, Benton County Agricultural Society, Burlington Schools, Clear Lake State Park, Decorah Schools, Des Moines Schools, Eddyville Schools, Humboldt Schools, Interstate 35 Schools, Marshall County Conservation Board, Norwalk Schools, East Mills Schools, Pella Christian Schools, Prairie Rose State Park, Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock Schools, Saydell Schools, Southeast Warren Schools, Stuart Lions Club, Tripoli Schools, Urbandale Schools, Vinton-Shellsburg Schools, the City of Wall Lake, Waverly-Shell Rock Schools, West Burlington Schools, and West Liberty Schools.

The Trees for Kids and Trees for Teens grant program is funded by Iowa Department of Natural Resources Forestry Bureau, MidAmerican Energy, Black Hills Energy, Alliant Energy, Iowa Bankers Association, Trees Forever, Iowa Tree Farm Committee, and the Iowa Woodland Owners Association.

If anyone would like to assist with their school, many schools need donations of hoses (for watering), buckets, shovels, rakes, small gloves for students.  Most schools would also appreciate folks willing to take on watering responsibility for one week during the summer.
