Wastewater Bypass In Farmersburg Caused By Power Outage
Posted: 02/21/2011

DES MOINES - The city of Farmersburg reported that a power outage resulted in a bypass of 2500 gallons of wastewater at its pump station in the city. The wastewater was pumped to Howards Creek on the north side of the city.

The DNR is requiring the city to collect water samples. People are cautioned to keep children and pets away from the area for 48 hours.

A better option would have been to use the quick connect to pump the wastewater back into the force main, rather than pumping it to the creek. Wastewater operators are reminded to review their procedures so alternatives to pumping wastewater into waters of the state can be avoided.
