Public Input Sought for Proposed State Parks Rules
Posted: 12/20/2011
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is seeking input on a number of proposed rule changes for state parks, recreation areas and state forest campgrounds.

Proposed changes include rental fees for new or renovated lodge facilities and the warming house at Pilot Knob State Park; damage deposits for kegs, rules on dogs in cabins and yurts and prohibit unattended pets in campgrounds.

Changes also clarify stay dates for walk-in camping; remove the Friday/Saturday stay requirement for the Scherburne House and the requirement for proof of physical disability from a doctor.
Proposals establish a provision for shooting from a stationary vehicle for persons with a physical disability and incorporate existing reservation policies into administrative rules.

Interested persons can visit the state parks website at http://www.iowadnr.gov/Destinations/StateParksRecAreas/ProposedRuleChanges.aspx to review a more detailed outline of the proposed rule changes.

Comments will be accepted through January 23, 2012. Persons may send comments by e-mail, mail or over the phone. Any questions or comments should be directed to Sherry Arntzen, Iowa State Parks, 502 East Ninth Street, Wallace State Office Building, Des Moines, IA 50319-0034; (515) 242-6233; Sherry.Arntzen@dnr.iowa.gov.

Input received will be reviewed and taken into consideration by the state parks management team when initiating the rule making process in 2012.
