Online Classes Remain to Meet Hunter Education Requirement

Procrastinators who put off taking that hunter education class are now down to their final option before shotgun deer season: the online course.

Field days are scheduled for Nov. 7 in Spencer, Nov. 17 in Des Moines and Nov. 25 in Storm Lake.  Space is limited and students must register for the field day.

One classroom hunter education course has two spaces remaining. It is being held in Pleasantville Nov. 3 - 5.  All other remaining classes are full and have a waiting list.

“The volunteer instructors are hunters too, and they want to get out in the field and participate in the hunt so the majority of our classes are scheduled before most hunting seasons are open,” said Megan Wisecup, recreational safety program supervisor for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources who coordinates the hunter education program.

For information about the online course and register for the field day, go to http://www.iowadnr.gov/Hunting/HunterSafetyEducation/HunterEducationProgram.aspx  and scroll down to option two.
