Des Moines – The city of Altoona reported a wastewater bypass occurred at a lift station located at 1394 8th Street. The bypass is believed to have started Saturday and was discovered Oct. 10 at 9:30 a.m. An estimated 170,000 gallons of untreated wastewater has been released.
The bypass reached Mud Creek, a half-mile from the bypass site. Some dead minnows have been observed.
The DNR is investigating the cause of the bypass.
