DES MOINES - The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is reminding state park guests that a new reservation system is scheduled to come online in mid-February.
The current system will continue to operate and accept reservations for cabins, day- use lodges and shelters until Feb. 3. No camping reservations for 2011 will be accepted until Feb. 17, when the second generation system is scheduled to debut.
The new system will have a new look and feel as well as more convenience features than the current system, including online cancellations, additional information on park amenities and activities, enhanced search capabilities and expanded call center hours (M-F 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. CST; Sat/Su 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. CST; closed on New Year's Day, Easter, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day). The DNR is also looking at providing gift cards and incentive programs through the new system in the future.
Many of the reservation policies such as reservation windows and cut-off dates will not change.
The Active Network, the contracted vendor for the new system has 25 years of experience in the park reservation business supporting 41 state, federal and county park systems. They also manage the new hunting and fishing license system used by DNR.
