Maquoketa Man Killed in Dubuque Boat Collision

DUBUQUE – A Maquoketa man was killed Thursday evening following a boating collision that occurred on the Mississippi River near Dubuque.

James Sutton, 45, was killed when a boat operated by Kent Hoffman, 38, of Galena, Ill., allegedly went over the top of the boat operated by Sutton that was believed to be sitting in the water. Lori Fey, 47, of Maquoketa, was a passenger on the Sutton boat and was not seriously injured in the collision.

The collision occurred shortly after 9 p.m. Thursday in Schmidt Harbor. The incident is being investigated by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, the Dubuque Police Department and the Iowa State Patrol.
