KELLERTON - A Kellerton man suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound Saturday while hunting coyotes in Ringgold County.
Cameron Collier, 23, of Kellerton, was sitting in a vehicle with his half brother, Nathan Weeda, 26, of Mt. Ayr, while hunting with others for coyotes. The two were waiting in the truck while dogs searched for coyotes when Collier was examining a 40-caliber handgun owned by Weeda and it fired striking him through the left forearm. The incident occurred shortly after 10 a.m. northwest of Kellerton.
Weeda drove Collier to Ringgold County Hospital in Mt. Ayr where he was examined and then transferred by ambulance to a hospital in Des Moines, where he was being treated for a non-life threatening injury.
Both Collier and Weeda have permits to carry handguns.
