DES MOINES - The city of Monona has restored power to one pump and has ended the discharge of wastewater that began at approximately 6 a.m.

A power outage overnight resulted in loss of control to pumps at the north lift station.

An estimated 35,000 gallons of wastewater was discharged to a nearby ditch. The wastewater was in the process of being pumped to a tanker truck and hauled back to the treatment facility.

The DNR is monitoring the situation and is requiring the city to collect water samples. People are cautioned to keep children and pets away from the area for 48 hours.
