The advisory against boating on the Mississippi River has been extended to Lake Odessa in Louisa County as well.
“The lake is essentially part of the Mississippi River right now because of high water,” said Andy Robbins, a wildlife biologist for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
High water has not only resulted in a large amount of debris in the water, but is also posing a problem with shoreline cabins and can cause erosion along unprotected shorelines from boat wakes.
Robbins said all of the boat ramps and accesses are flooded at this point and the DNR is not recommending any type of recreational activity at Lake Odessa until the flood waters recede.
