DES MOINES - The city of Monona reported that a power outage overnight resulted in loss of control to pumps at the north lift station. The lift station began to overflow at approximately 6 a.m.

Wastewater is being discharged to a nearby ditch. The DNR instructed the operator to pump the wastewater from the lift station to an available tanker truck and haul it to the treatment facility.

The nearest water body is an unnamed tributary to Suttle Creek. Wastewater is not expected to reach the tributary before pumping begins.

The DNR is monitoring the situation and is requiring the city to collect water samples. People are cautioned to keep children and pets away from the area for 48 hours.
