Small Anhydrous Pipeline Leaks in Humboldt County

BRADGATE – During routine inspections, Magellan pipeline workers discovered two small leaks Monday in an anhydrous ammonia pipeline in rural Humboldt County.

The pinhole-sized leaks were more than one mile apart. They were about one and a half and three miles from the city of Bradgate.

The company conducted air quality monitoring to assure the safety of nearby residents. Monitoring results showed minimal releases of anhydrous to the atmosphere.

There was no impact to surface waters, although some contaminated soil must be land applied.

Magellan staff made temporary repairs to both leaks Monday night and early Tuesday. Work continued Tuesday to make permanent repairs.

The DNR is monitoring the situation.
