Charlene Elyea, O’Brien County Conservation Board Naturalist, was presented with the 2012-2013 Project WILD® Outstanding Facilitator of the Year Award during the Iowa Project WILD® facilitator meeting on June 18.

Elyea works closely with the Palo Alto County Conservation Board Naturalist Miriam Patton, to customize summer workshops for their local teachers.

Elyea has also assisted with the redesign and enhancement of other workshops and Project WILD online courses ensuring that they continue to meet the needs of teachers across the state while maintaining the mission of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

Elyea is also a mentor to new facilitators providing direction and leadership. Her passion and dedication as a facilitator made her a valued member of the Iowa Project WILD® team, said Barb Gigar, aquatic education program coordinator for the Iowa DNR.

Elyea has been a facilitator for Iowa Project WILD for seven years.
