South Raccoon River's Pleasant Valley Access Closed for Renovation
Paddlers heading to the South Raccoon River in Dallas County will find the Pleasant Valley Access closed for the next two weeks while the parking area is renovated.
“While the project may not be fully complete, we anticipate the new parking area to be usable by the July 4th holiday weekend,” said Todd Robertson, outreach coordinator for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Rivers Program.
Paddlers can look forward to a new parking area with 10 stalls including two ADA stalls. There will also be a loop and staging area for trailers. The old access road will become a wetland area with new plantings.
The new access and parking lot will be located at the end of Indian Trail, blocking off the old access road to help curb illegal dumping, target shooting and unauthorized motor vehicle use.
“Paddlers will now enjoy a much improved site that will provide better access to the river and a safe place to park their vehicles,” said Robertson.
