MAPLETON - The city of Mapleton has lifted a drinking water advisory after test results indicate the water is safe to drink.
After a devastating tornado tore through Mapleton Saturday, the DNR tested the town's drinking water Monday for bacteria and nitrate levels to ensure the water was safe. Laboratory results returned late Tuesday indicate the water is safe for drinking and cooking. Nitrate levels are somewhat elevated, but under the maximum contaminant level established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
The DNR will continue to test drinking water in Mapleton as the town proceeds with demolition of properties hit by the tornado and intensive cleanup efforts.
