Volunteer Paddle Sports Instructor Wanted

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is looking for a volunteer to teach adults and children how to operate a kayak, canoe and paddleboard on select Friday evenings in the summer at Big Creek State Park.
 
The volunteer will instruct and demonstrate water and watercraft safety during the introductory courses.

Prospective instructors will either be certified by the DNR through its two day canoe/kayak school or have an American Canoe Association instructor certification. The instructor and participants are required to wear lifejackets during the course. Class size will be limited to 10 participants.

Instructor qualifications include the ability to perform paddling skills consistently with demonstration quality, effective teaching skills, technical knowledge of paddle sports, appropriate safety and rescue ability and have effective group/course management and positive interpersonal skills. 

Instructors must be at least 18 years of age, maintain an appropriate level of first aid and age appropriate CPR trainings, and have the ability to walk up stairs and lift up to 25 pounds.
