The restaurant and concession at Viking Lake State Park will be under new management this year, when Deb Hummel replaces longtime operators Otto "Mac" and Julie McIntosh, who decided to retire.
Hummel said she does not plan many changes to the services offered. She will keep the same daily hours for the restaurant - 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., and the store and restaurant will open for the season on April 15.
The store will carry an assortment of camping items and the restaurant will offer a full menu, including steaks, chicken, burgers, tenderloins and grilled cheese.
The concession store will continue to offer pontoons, fishing boats, canoes, kayaks and paddle boats for rent and bait and tackle for sale.
Viking Lake State Park, in Montgomery County, is one of the most popular campgrounds in Iowa and the only state park with a full service restaurant. The campground reopened in 2004 after a complete renovation.
