Avoid areas of heavy smoke near fireworks activities and displays

WINDSOR HEIGHTS – Whether attending a spectacular Fourth of July celebration or a picnic with backyard fireworks, the aftermath of drifting smoke can cause breathing problems for some. If the air is stagnant, fine particles can be trapped near the ground and build to unhealthy levels.

In Iowa, confinement site manure applicators — people who haul and land apply manure from a confinement (totally roofed) facility with a capacity of 500 or more animal units (1,250 finishing hogs, 500 beef cattle, etc.) — must be certified or use a certified commercial manure applicator. Commercial applicators (those who are in the business of hauling or applying manure) must also be properly certified.

DES MOINES – Once again, 88 of 99 Iowa counties notified DNR in January that they plan to evaluate construction permit applications and proposed locations for animal confinements by using the master matrix.
