Meeting Sept. 29 to discuss renewal of stormwater permits

DES MOINES — The DNR will hold a stakeholder meeting Sept. 29 in Des Moines to discuss proposed changes to three stormwater discharge permits.

The meeting begins at 10 a.m. in Conference Room 2N of the Wallace State Office Building, 502 E. Ninth St.

The DNR is proposing to renew three stormwater permits – General Permits 1, 2 and 3 – for an additional five years. The permits authorize the discharge of stormwater. General permits for stormwater discharges are required to be adopted as rules and are effective for no more than five years, as specified in the Iowa Administrative Code. The meeting is part of a pre-rulemaking stakeholder input process on these proposed rules.

Comments and questions may also be submitted to the DNR’s stormwater coordinator at joe.griffin@dnr.iowa.gov, by telephone at 515-725-8417 or by mail at:  Storm Water Coordinator, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, 502 E. Ninth St., Des Moines, IA  50319.

The proposed changes to the general permits and a summary of the changes may be viewed at www.iowadnr.gov/Environmental-Protection/Water-Quality/NPDES-Storm-Water or can be requested via email to joe.griffin@dnr.iowa.gov.
