Financial assistance opportunities available for landfill diversion projects

DES MOINES – The DNR’s Solid Waste Alternatives Program (SWAP) is now accepting financial assistance applications for projects that work to reduce the amount of solid waste generated and landfilled in Iowa.

The next SWAP application deadline is 4 p.m. July 1, with another ongoing round following on January 2. All applications can be found at www.iowadnr.gov/swap.

SWAP provides forgivable and zero- and low-interest loans for public and private sector solid waste management projects that help divert natural resources from the landfill through waste reduction, recycling, reuse and education efforts.

In addition, financial assistance through the Professional Development Assistance (PDA) program will begin accepting applications on July 1. These financial awards assist in the development and delivery of technical assistance, public awareness, continuing education and other professional development opportunities to Iowa's solid waste professionals, educators and others. Applications for the PDA program are accepted on an open basis. Additional PDA information can be found at http://www.iowadnr.gov/Environmental-Protection/Land-Quality/Waste-Planning-Recycling/SWAP/Professional-Dev-Asst.
