STORM LAKE – Officials in the city of Storm Lake reported to DNR this morning that an unknown, but small, amount of untreated wastewater leaked into Storm Lake overnight.

The discharge occurred through a leaking valve after the city closed a pumping station on the west side of the lake Monday.

When discovered Tuesday morning, the city immediately pumped out wastewater in the pumping station, worked on the valves and stopped the wastewater flow. City officials plan to fill the area with concrete today to prevent future leaks.

The DNR cautions people to keep children and pets away from the inlet from Little Storm into Storm Lake for the next 24 hours.
