LAKE CITY – The city of Lake City, Calhoun County, successfully stopped a wastewater discharge about 4 p.m. Wednesday by pumping wastewater to a nearby pasture.

It may take a month before the city receives new pumps and controls. In the short-term, city officials are working with a contractor to set up a larger pump and hose capable of carrying wastewater to the city’s lagoons.

The wastewater discharge began Nov. 9 when staff discovered an electrical failure after the main pumping station flooded. An unknown amount of untreated wastewater reached Lake Creek, a tributary of the North Raccoon River.

The DNR is monitoring the situation and providing technical assistance.
